Secured Management Corp ("SMC”) was formed by Michael Hanabusa with the objective to handle your company’s accounting and financial management needs.

Past and present accounts consist of 26 funds with capital commitments of approximately $775 million with real estate investments in the United States, Japan and Europe and a hotel joint venture. SMC also provides accounting assistance to a private equity real estate investment management company located in Japan with over $10 billion of real estate and debt assets under management.  Our services include but are not limited to the following:

Founder

Michael Hanabusa is the Founder and President of SMC.  Michael has more than 30+ years of accounting experience consisting of 4 years of public accounting and the balance as an accounting executive/consultant with practical experience in the daily management of the accounting for various real estate portfolios.  After leaving public accounting, Michael quickly rose and within a couple of years held the position of Vice President/Controller of a portfolio of over 500 properties located throughout the United States.  Since 2000, Michael has worked to assist and/or manage the daily accounting and reporting functions of 26 funds with numerous interests in investments in the United States, Japan and Europe.  Michael graduated with honors with an accounting degree from California State University, Northridge and spent his first 4 years after graduating in public accounting earning his certified public accounting license.  


Management

Terri Perez is the Vice President Financial Services, has worked in accounting for 26+ years and has been with SMC since its inception. Terri graduated with honors from California State University, Northridge with a BS in Accounting. Upon graduating she worked in public accounting for a Big Six accounting firm and passed the CPA exam. After leaving public accounting, Terri was responsible for all financial reporting as the Controller of a portfolio of numerous properties located throughout the United States. Terri has worked with Michael since the inception of SMC and was instrumental in onboarding of many of SMC’s new clients and having overall reporting responsibility for many of its clients. She continues to be involved in the daily accounting & reporting of various real estate investment funds and entities managed by SMC.

Bryan Suh is the Vice President Financial Services, has been associated with SMC since 2016 as he oversaw the SMC financial work product as a client and joined the SMC team in 2020. Prior to joining SMC, Bryan worked for commercial and multifamily real estate firms in West LA and was involved in property, fund, and corporate accounting. He most recently worked as the Controller for a multifamily real estate firm in Los Angeles, overseeing all property and corporate reporting, in addition to managing cash flow and construction draws across the company’s portfolio. Bryan is a licensed CPA and graduated from UCLA with a minor in accounting.
